How these tools work

Real formulas, not guesses

Every tool on this page runs entirely in your browser and is built on a documented method:

  • Tent size uses the standard 20–30 sq ft per person rule used by outfitter guides.
  • Hiking time uses Naismith’s rule (1892) with a Langmuir descent amendment.
  • Fishing setup looks up line strength and rig from a real angling data table (Take Me Fishing / RBFF, Bassmaster, Field & Stream, In-Fisherman).
  • Portable power sums device watt-hours over your trip days with standard inverter-loss and headroom factors.

Data sources are noted on each tool with the retrieval date 2026-08-15. Pair these with the RV trip tools when you are traveling by vehicle.

Data sources & methodology

  • 2026 rental rates Per-class nightly rates, mileage, and cleaning/insurance fees as current market estimates.
  • Fuel & campgrounds MPG ranges by class and $35/night campground average used for budget estimates.
  • Internal editorial Guides and calculators reviewed by the RvRove editorial team before publication.

Methodology and citations are maintained by the RvRove editorial team. Where an official schedule is not yet loaded, results are shown as model estimates and the source is stated as a reference.
