Do I need RV insurance for a rental?
Yes, but you may already have it. Most rental companies include basic liability, and your personal auto policy or travel credit card may extend collision and comprehensive to a rented RV. What RV insurance do I need if I own the RV?
Owned RVs need at minimum liability (required by law), comprehensive (theft, fire, weather), collision (accidents), and uninsured motorist coverage. Full-timers should add full-timer coverage (like homeowner liability). Optional add-ons include vacation liability, roadside assistance, and personal effects coverage.
What rental RV insurance add-ons should I skip?
Skip PAI (Personal Accident Insurance, covered by health insurance), PEC (Personal Effects Coverage, covered by homeowners/renters), and roadside assistance if you have AAA or Good Sam. Always take CDW/LDW if your auto policy or credit card does not cover the rental RV.
Does my credit card cover RV rentals?
Many premium travel credit cards cover car rentals, but RV coverage is rare. Most cards exclude vehicles over 8,000 to 10,000 lbs GVWR or with more than 8 passenger seats. Check your card benefits document or call the number on the back before relying on it.
How much is RV insurance per month?
Owned RV insurance averages $100 to $300 per month for a Class C motorhome, $75 to $200 for a travel trailer, and $150 to $500 for a Class A. Rental coverage runs $25 to $45 per day. Full-timer coverage adds $200 to $500 per year on top.
