Inspect the exterior for damage, check all tires for pressure and tread, verify the water and electrical systems work, confirm the propane is off while driving, secure all interior items, and retract slides and awnings. Use the checklist above so you do not miss anything.
How do I document RV damage at pickup?
Walk around the entire RV with the owner or rental agent and photograph every panel, corner, roof seam, and existing scratch. Note damage in writing on the rental agreement and have it signed off. This protects you from being charged for pre-existing damage at return.
Should slides and awnings be retracted while driving?
Yes. Always fully retract slide-outs and awnings before driving. Driving with an extended slide or awning can cause serious damage and is unsafe. Confirm they are locked in the travel position before leaving.
Where should the propane valve be while driving?
Most RVs require the propane tank valve to be closed while driving for safety, though some allow it to run the refrigerator. Check your rental orientation and local rules. Never run propane appliances while refueling.
