Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

What is the most important gear for sleeping in an EV?
A custom-fit or foldable mattress that fills the cargo area gap between folded seats and the trunk floor. Without one, the uneven surface makes for poor sleep. Window sunshades are a close second — they provide privacy, insulation, and block early morning light that would otherwise wake you up.
Do I need a V2L adapter for EV camping?
If your EV supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and you plan to cook or power devices at camp, a V2L adapter is essential. It plugs into your charging port and provides a standard household outlet. Not all EVs support V2L — Tesla does not (as of 2026), but Hyundai/Kia E-GMP vehicles and the Ford F-150 Lightning do.
Can I use a regular air mattress in my EV?
Yes, but a generic air mattress will slide around and leave gaps. Purpose-made EV mattresses (like those for Tesla Model Y or Ioniq 5) are cut to the exact shape of the cargo area and fill the step between seats and trunk floor. They cost more but dramatically improve sleep quality.
